Southern Indiana is full of some of the most incredible natural sights in the Hoosier state. It's also home to the state's largest trail: Knobstone Trail.
Knobstone Trail spans an incredible 58 miles and is challenging to complete. It's actually the trail many hikers use to prepare before hiking the Appalachian Trail.
Since this is such a long hike, it's recommended that hikers bring plenty of food, water, and tents or hammocks for camping. The hike doesn't have to be completed in its entirety (there are several trailheads and exits along the way) but if you're looking for the ultimate Indiana hike, you'll want to come prepared.
If there was any doubt that southern Indiana broke the myth about the Hoosier state being entirely flat, Knobstone Trail serves as proof. This hilly and rugged trail has frequent steep climbs and changes 20,000 feet in elevation, overall.
Courtney's originally from the East Coast, but has found a charming new home in Indiana. She loves checking out local music, reading, and trying new food. She's also a little too addicted to coffee and has a Maine Coon cat she answers to.
