White Pines Forest State Park in Ogle County is a popular hiking and camping destination that is lesser known to the majority of Illinoisans.

The 385-acre park used to be known as White Pines Woods and was established as a state park in 1927, though activists lobbied for this status as far back as 1900. It was designated as a nature preserve in 2001.
