The most unique houses in Illinois aren’t the only pieces of architectural brilliance in the state. There are lots of impressive pieces of architecture in Illinois, including the Funks Grove Church and Chapel. Tucked away in the woods of McLean, the charming little house of worship was erected in 1864-65. In 2001, the charming little church was renovated; however, great care was taken to retain the building’s original characteristics, such as the ceiling beams, altar rail, and pulpit. In addition to the original characteristics, the chapel includes lots of other antiquated features, like hand-planed white pine pews, wall-mounted lanterns with reflective mirrors, two wood-burning stoves, and an 1878 pump organ.
