Enjoy German Style Craft Beer At Stubborn German Brewing Co. In Illinois
You don’t have to wait until Oktoberfest to enjoy real German beer in the Prairie State. The small city of Waterloo was settled by German immigrants in the 1840s and the cultural influence is still celebrated here today. Several German-style buildings and restaurants can be found along with Stubborn German Brewing Company where you can sip on real German bier (beer) in this German town.
Waterloo residents Chris and Tammy Rahn opened Stubborn German Brewing Company in 2016. Chris had won several awards for his home brewing hobby and it was the couple's dream to open up a brewery in their hometown.
The brewery is located on the first floor and basement of the historic Masonic Lodge building which was originally constructed in 1885 as a dry goods store. The Masonic Lodge acquired it in 1921 and occupies the second and third floors today.
Sip on high-quality German and American beer while playing board games and catching up with friends. This brewery has become a place of gathering and fun since it opened and it is part of the official Southern Illinois Beer Trail.
There is a wide selection of craft beer to try here at Stubborn German Brewing Company. Choose from light, amber, Bourbon barrel-aged, hoppy, and wheat and fruit in either an eight-ounce or 16-ounce pour. Their version of Oktoberfest beer, called 'Stubbornfest,' can also be ordered in a one-liter mug.
Beer flights are also available as a great way to sample several varieties. Order either the six 4-ounce samples or try a flight of 16 to share with your group.
If you're not in the mood for a fine German beer, don't worry! With a fully stocked bar, you can order wine, a mixed drink, or choose from the vast selection of bourbons and rye whiskeys.
Can't get enough of the delicious beer at the brewery? You're in luck because cans and growlers are available for purchase so you can enjoy them at home.
