Straw Fest takes place Saturday, August 24, 2019 but events begin as early as August 9, 2019 in a small town in northern Illinois.
Known as the U.S. National Straw Sculpting Competition, the first few weeks of the event consist of sculpting and voting. There will be live music the first and second weekends of the event.
The day of the Straw Fest, there will be food trucks available between 11:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. as well as booths with antiques for sale between noon and 4 p.m.
Demonstrations, dances, live music, and other traditional country fun are scheduled to take place throughout the day. Check the website (link below) for exact times.
The most exciting thing you'll want to do while visiting this unique festival is look at all the straw sculptures.
Each begins with a frame and is built up with tons of straw. Sculptors can make any design out of something as simple as wheat byproduct.
This will be the fourth year for this small town event. Come on up to Mt. Morris and see why locals love it so much.
