Rim Rock Recreation Trail meanders 1.7 miles through Shawnee National Forest and features educational signs, where you'll learn about the area's history, along the path.
Only hikers are permitted on the trail. Dogs are allowed, but they must be leashed at all times. Anything you take with you along the trail should also come out.
Although it's rated moderate for its stairs, Rim Rock Recreation Trail is popular with families with children and with pets. You might even want to bring a picnic along, so you can sit down, relax, and enjoy the scenery.
Pounds Hollow Ecological Area, in which the Rim Rock Recreation Trail runs, is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Camping is not permitted in that particular area of the forest.
