The Nature-Themed Playground In Illinois That’s Oh-So Special
A nature-themed playground in Illinois seeks to help children explore the natural world and to learn firsthand the joys of playing outdoors. If you’re interested in fueling your kids’ curiosity about the natural world, head over to Bison’s Bluff Nature Playground in Schaumburg.
Bison’s Bluff Nature Playground is a part of Schaumburg Park District’s 135-acre Spring Valley refuge, which also includes a nature center and an 1880s living history farm.
It leads to “play pockets” that are themed and allow kids to play and explore nature in settings that are both more natural and a little more secluded.
You’ll find another three miles of trails at Spring Valley that connect Bison’s Bluff with the living history farm and nature center and allow for exploration of all the refuge’s natural areas.
Bison’s Bluff is open year-round when weather permits, with the exception of certain holidays. There is no admission fee during the winter season, but a nominal fee is charged during the remainder of the year. The park district’s website offers more information about fees, schedules, and reservations for playtime.
While you’re in the area, consider a visit to the Chicago Athenaeum International Sculpture Park, an outdoor sculpture garden where you can enjoy a walk while exploring its world-renowned artworks.
