Hamburger Heaven, 281 N. York Road in Elmhurst, is an old-school walk-up diner that's been known for its huge burgers, root beer floats, crinkle-cut fries, and soft serve since it opened in 1948.
The "Home of the Original Double-Decker," Hamburger Heaven still serves up two-patty burgers complete with all the customizable fixings. The "No Bull" burger is one of its largest — two 1/3-pound burgers topped with fries and anything else your heart desires, from bacon, to mushrooms, to onion, to peppers, and more.
The diner has a substantial list of Signature Big Burgers, including a Big Hamburger, Big Cheeseburger, and Big Bacon Burger, as well as creative specialties like the Longhorn, York St., Pizza Burger, Sunrise, and Larry burger, which tops a 1/3-lb. patty with grilled onions, cheese sauce, and pickles on a pretzel bun.
If you have a good life insurance policy, you can even be so bold as to add another patty for just $2.75 — bringing the beef count up to one full pound.
