For nature lovers, it would truly be a dream to spend all day among the plants and flowers. At Lilacia Park in Lombard, you can do just that! This incredible place is packed with stunning flowers around every corner. Take a visit there, but be careful – you just might want to stay there forever.
This beautiful park has an interesting history.
In the late 1800s, Lombard landowners William and Helen Plum visited an arboretum in France and fell in love with lilacs.
The landowners brought two lilac bulbs home from France and planted them on their land.
When they passed away, the land was given to Lombard to be used as a public park.
Shortly after it was taken over by the city, famed landscape architect Jens Jensen put his stamp on the place.
Now specializing in both lilacs and tulips, the 8.3 acre garden is absolutely stunning.
The park is simply blissful, surrounding visitors with natural delights at every turn.
It seems that the beauty might never end.
From those two original bulbs to the garden's current collection of over 200 varieties of lilacs and 50 varieties of tulips, the park would certainly make the original landowners proud.
During the months of April and May, the park transforms as the flowers begin to bloom.
For the best Lilacia Park experience, go during Lilac Time.
The Lombard Park District organizes events ranging from wine tasting to plant sales to grounds tours.
Even in the Fall, this park is gorgeous.
Take some time to visit Lombard's treasured park this year; you won't regret it!
