Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the former Mercer County Jail was transformed into The Slammer Bed & Breakfast in 1998. It is a three-story brick building from 1909 located in the small town of Aledo. Illinois.
There are nine unique suites for guests to choose from, and rates run as low as $75 to $100 per night. Rooms include either one or two queen or twin-sized beds.
Each room is named for a person or aspect of history, such as the Lincoln Room, The Suzy Boggus Room, and The Railroad Room.
Breakfast is served each morning and includes scrambled eggs and sausage as well as fresh-baked bread and pastries, cereal, oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, and other simple morning treats. Coffee, tea, juice, and soda are also available.
