During the holiday season, one of the favorite pastimes for many is to drive around and look at spectacular light displays and decor around Illinois. From city parks to theme parks, botanical gardens, zoos, and neighborhoods, you’ll find twinkling lights galore. Head to the city of Bloomington and you’ll even find a few historic mansions, including Ewing Manor, all decked out for the holidays. Let’s take a look at the lights and decor of this historic mansion in Illinois.
Set on a sublime 6.5-acre property, Ewing Manor, home to the Ewing Cultural Center, was once home to Hazle Buck Ewing, a philanthropist who was an integral part of the women's suffrage movement in the community. Originally called Sunset Hill, Ewing Manor was built in 1929.
Today the manor is used as a cultural, educational, and events center and is owned by the Illinois State University Foundation.
On Mondays from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., June through October, public tours of the Manor are offered. Throughout the year, visitors can walk around the gardens of the property for free.
Ewing Manor, along with the David Davis Mansion, is part of the Christmas at the Mansions Event. Held on December 11, 2021, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., visitors have a wonderful opportunity to tour two historic mansions in the Bloomington-Normal area.
