Ope! From the rural cornfields of DeKalb County, Linze is an Illinois native and true Midwestern gal who can make a mean bonfire and whip up a perfect marshmallow salad. Since 2014, her bylines and photography have appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Magazine, Chicago Sun-Times, and Block Club Chicago/DNAinfo Chicago, Only in Your State, and more. She has interviewed Dolly Parton, written about beloved diners along historic Route 66, visited the last Rainforest Cafe in the Illinois, and reviewed luxurious English manor-inspired hotels. Whether it's writing about a local gem or world-renowned establishment, Linze brings a heartwarming and historical perspective to each story, using facts, wit, and personal experience to impress upon readers the importance of culture, food, travel, and all things local. Her favorite destinations in Illinois include Starved Rock State Park, Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood, the charming small town of Sycamore, and historic Rosehill Cemetery. When she's not writing or photographing, Linze enjoys gardening, spending time with her husband and pets, cooking, baking, and grilling, and relaxing with trashy TV.
Once winter is officially over, Illinoisians are bursting to get outdoors. With so many incredible parks, lakes, and miles of rolling country, camping is often one of the first things we think of. I grew up in rural Northern Illinois and spending an evening next to the campfire under the night sky was something I looked forward to every year. Little did I realize then that possibly the best RV campground in Illinois was right in my backyard.
Sycamore RV Resort is an RV camping resort in the charming small town of Sycamore in DeKalb County and has been family-owned since 1986.
One of the most popular RV resorts in the state, the park features more than 30 acres of lake access, with a private sandy beach perfect for swimming and fishing...
...or hopping in a paddle boat to take off on a water adventure. Rentals for paddle boats, row boats, and petal karts are all available starting at $5.
The resort is open from April 1 to October 31 with nightly rates starting at $48. Sites come with water, electric, and sewer hookups, as well as a fire pit. A major plus is that many of the sites are situated right near the water for gorgeous lakeside sunsets and easy access for canoe or kayak launches.
At night, the sky and water connect to form a picturesque scene. Stars are brightly visible from the countryside, making it a peaceful getaway from dawn til dusk.
Growing up in DeKalb County, the star-lit sky is one of the things I love most.
Of course, the fun isn't limited to just the resort grounds — the RV park is perfectly located near downtown Sycamore, which is full of local dining, shopping, and stunning historic architecture.
A favorite activity for locals and visitors alike is to spend some time at the Sycamore Family Sports Center, which offers mini golf, batting cages, a driving range, go-karts, and more. Across the street is the Sycamore Golf Club, a sprawling, pristine course perfect for a tranquil day on the green.
Right next to the family sports center and golf course is Dairy Ripple, a Sycamore staple known for its classic American food and ice cream. Pro tip: Make sure you get "eyes" with your cone!
