By this time of year, we’re all craving the sweet taste of apple cider. There’s something special about fresh-pressed apples from cider mills in the fall, and Illinois has a plethora of them.
No matter what part of the state you call home, there’s an orchard nearby that sells this delicious, seasonal drink. Check out these 11 places.
1. Okaw Valley Orchard (Sullivan)
Boasting 27 different varieties of apples and other fruits, this incredible orchard is a remote must. In addition to cider, it also sells donuts, jams, honey, and baked goods, and it has a u-pick area.
2. Valley Orchard (Cherry Valley)
This is one of the oldest orchards in the state, growing apples since 1977. The farm has 35 acres and 5,000 trees as well as various, seasonal berries.
3. All Seasons Apple Orchard (Woodstock)
This wonderland is an apple orchard, a pumpkin patch, and a corn maze all in one. In addition to cider, you'll find hand-dipped caramel apples, kettle corn, and homemade apple cider donuts.
4. Stone's Apple Barn (East Moline)
Located in a remote area near the Mississippi River, this lovely farm is a popular cider mill. It grows several varieties of apples and other fruits, and the store is open seasonally.
5. Christ Orchard (Elmwood)
This unique orchard has areas for u-pick apples and u-pick pumpkins. Guests flock here each fall for cider, preserves, plants, and fall decorations.
6. Curtis Orchard (Champaign)
Open six months a year, this lovely place serves lunch in September and October. In addition to that sweet apple drink, donuts and pies are also available. The grounds include a playground and petting zoo.
7. Eckert's Country Store & Farms (Belleville)
This is the largest u-pick orchard in Illinois. It also allows u-pick berries and other produce and recently expanded to include a farm-to-table restaurant. It is also an entertainment venue for weddings and other parties.
8. Camp's Orchard (Roseville)
This fabulous place offers fresh apples and cider as well as honey jam and nuts. Locals also stop by for apple cider donuts and apple cider slushies.
9. Kuipers Family Farm (Maple Park)
At this fun cider mill, you'll find hand-spun caramel apples. fudge, homemade pies, apples, and cider donuts. You can also enjoy hayrides, a corn maze, farm animals, a nature walk, a pumpkin farm, and so much more.
10. Prairie Sky Orchard (Union)
This u-pick orchard includes a cafe with lunch options plus pie and coffee. You can get delicious apple cider donuts, take-and-bake pies, caramel apples slices, and more.
11. Edgewood Orchards (Quincy)
Family-owned and operated since 1930, this cider mill has been producing pure apple cider with no preservatives or additives. Its unique, sweet flavor comes from a special blend of apples.
