This Overgrown, Abandoned Waterpark In Illinois Will Give You The Creeps

Once upon a time, Ebenezer Floppen Slopper’s was the water park to go to. No, I have no idea who named this park or why it was given the green light. And no one really knows why it closed. Just as abruptly as Ebenzer Floppen Slopper’s came on the scene (around 1980), there it went (around 1989). It was located in Oakbrook Terrace just off of Route 83. The area was once a dump (quite literally) when a man named Mark Collor thought it would make a great place for a water park. It had humble beginnings with just two slides, but it quickly expanded to include all sorts of activities, including “Doc River’s Roaring Rapids” (no, not that Doc Rivers, NBA fans). The park seemingly couldn’t keep up with demand. Long lines and happy children made this a popular area attraction. Who wouldn’t pay for the privilege of sitting on a rubber mat (really) and sliding down a slide? While we don’t know why the park closed, we do know that it sits abandoned, many of the slides covered in graffiti and completely overgrown. This video gives you a look at what it looks like today.

Were you ever at this water park? What do you remember about it?
