Good news for Idahoans! According to data compiled by Grand Canyon University, Idaho ranks 4th in the nation when it comes to hospital safety grades, trailing only behind Maine, Virginia, and Oregon.
Grand Canyon University (GCU) used data from a not-for-profit organization known as Leapfrog Group to come up with their findings. Leapfrog is most well-known for its hospital safety grades, which are determined using 28 different metrics concerning patient care. The grades are administered on a typical A to F grading scale.
Using the last four years' worth of Leapfrog's Hospital Safety Grades, GCU was able to create a handy visual guide to understand the nation's safest and least safe hospitals. In this guide, you can quickly and easily see the percentage of hospitals in each state that received an "A" grade from Leapfrog.
According to this, over 51% of Idaho's hospitals passed with an "A" grade. This is definitely something to be proud of, since it means that most of Idaho's hospitals experience minimal accidents and are successful in treating patients.
Maine came out on top with 57.1% of hospitals receiving a top grade. Rounding out the top 10 were Hawaii, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Utah, North Carolina, and Wisconsin—definitely a diverse bunch of states.
The goal of Leapfrog's findings and these easy-to-read guides from GCU is to increase transparency when it comes to hospital safety. Accidents can always happen at a hospital, but it helps to know that we're in especially good hands here in Idaho.
Hospital safety in our state is always something to be aware of, but it's of utmost importance now more than ever. Learn more about Idaho's hospital safety grade and how other states were graded with GCU's visual guides here.
