Completing any of Idaho’s beautiful hiking trails is satisfying feeling unlike any other. However, the feeling is that much sweeter when you end up at a pretty little waterfall such as this one. Tucked away in a remote region of the Idaho backcountry, few people realize this waterfall even exists! You can see this lovely sight for yourself when you take on this short and sweet waterfall hike. It’s the perfect trail for a brief outing or a family adventure, and the waterfall at the end is just the cherry on top.
Get ready for a short and sweet adventure that has a BIG reward at the end. The Snow Falls Trail near Bonners Ferry, Idaho is an easy waterfall hike that is bound to leave you in awe by the end of it.
Located in the Kaniksu National Forest, this trail clocks in at just 1.2-miles out-and-back, making it the perfect adventure for those needing a quick nature fix. Although the trailhead takes some effort to find, you'll find that it's definitely worth it.
To get to the trailhead, take US-95 to the Deep Creek exit south of town. Keep going west and then turn right onto Lion Den Road. You'll continue on this road until you reach Snow Creek Road and turn left. Continue on for a mile until you reach the trailhead, complete with a small parking area.
From the trailhead, you'll take off on a wide and easily followed trail which takes you into the depths of the forest. The entirety of the trail is shaded by beautiful tree canopy.
You'll eventually come across a fork in the trail. The left trail takes you to the Lower Falls, and the right trail will take you to the Upper Falls. Check out the Lower Falls where you'll find a nice little observation deck, perfect for taking in the scenery.
The Upper Falls are equally beautiful, if not even more so. Surrounded by beautiful ferns and lush foliage, the scene looks like something straight out of a fairy tale. You'll even get a good view of the water tumbling into the Lower Falls below.
Although best viewed during spring runoff, the trail makes for a fantastic adventure well into summer and even fall. At just a little over a mile, there's really no reason not to check out the stunning waterfall hiding at the end of this trail! Check out the trail map here.
