Fortunately, the Yellow Belly Lake Trail is short and not that difficult. It is a 3.8- mile out-and-back trail that takes you right to the shores of this beautiful body of water. You will find the trailhead off of the forest service road #365 near Pettit Lake.
This trail does have a few challenging areas but the majority is quite easy and even beginner hikers can tackle it with few issues.
Even if you encounter other hikers on your way, this lake in Custer County is 192 acres. This gives you plenty of space to spread out, enjoy the fresh air, and revel in the peace and quiet.
