With Only 3 Residents, This Is Officially The Least-Populated Town In Idaho

Over the years, Idaho has seen incredible growth. All over the state, towns and cities have seen an increase in their population, and who can blame them? Idaho is the best place to call home! However, there is one small town that hasn’t seen much growth – Warm River. In fact, Warm River is considered the least-populated town in Idaho.

Warm River is located in southeastern Idaho, just a few miles northeast of Ashton and near the Caribou-Targhee National Forest and the Wyoming and Idaho state line.

According to data from the 2020 U.S. Census, Warm River has a population of three residents, making it one of the least-populated towns in Idaho. Unfortunately, this small town has seen a significant decline in its population over the years. Statistics show that it is 70% smaller than it was in 2000.
While the town may be small, it certainly is big in beauty. This area is home to some of the most amazing and inspiring scenery.

Warm River was named for the river that flows through the town. This river is 36.5 miles in length, making it one of the shorter rivers in the area. It is spring-fed and perfect for fishing, but don’t be surprised if you see people tubing down the river on a hot summer day as well.

During a visit to Warm River, you can spend your day exploring the beautiful Mesa Falls Scenic Byway. Your drive begins in Ashton and takes you into the heart of the Targhee National Forest.

The highlight of this scenic byway is Mesa Falls. These are some of the most beautiful waterfalls in southeastern Idaho.

Make sure to bring your camera as these waterfalls are large and impressive. The Upper Mesa Falls, for example, is approximately 114 feet tall and 200 feet wide.
While there isn’t anything offered in Warm River itself when it comes to accommodations and dining, you can still stay nearby in the Warm River Campground.

This campground is located right next to the Warm River and is an excellent place to begin a tubing adventure or even throw in a fishing line. There are multiple campsites — 11 sites are designed for tents while the remaining campsites accommodate both trailer and tent camping.

Despite being the least-populated town in Idaho, there is plenty to see and do. This is one area of the Gem State that should never be overlooked.
