If you have spent any time in northern Idaho, you know that this part of the state quickly captures your heart. The panhandle of the Gem State is impressive, jaw-dropping, and home to some of the most incredible sights. While there are many different ways to view the incredible scenery in this area, one of the best is on the Lake Coeur d’Alene Scenic Byway. This byway is only 35 miles, but it will quickly become one of your favorite scenic drives in Idaho.
Lake Coeur d’Alene Scenic Byway begins at the junction of Interstate 90 and Idaho State Highway 97. You will follow Idaho 97 all of the way to Idaho State Highway 3.
As you travel, you will drive on a two-lane road for approximately 35 miles. Take your time, as there is so much to see and experience on your journey -- including stunning lake views.
If you are up for a little physical activity and some breathtaking sites, stop at the 3.3-mile Mineral Ridge National Recreation Trail. There are more than a dozen stations on this trail that will teach you all about the plants and animals in the area.

As you continue your drive on this scenic byway, you'll come to the beautiful and historic town of Harrison.
This is a small town at the southern end of Lake Coeur d’Alene and is home to fewer than 300 residents. This is a wonderful place to just enjoy the water, get out and stretch your legs, or stock up on snacks for the remainder of your drive.

This scenic drive in Idaho will also take you past the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes. This is a 73-mile paved trail that travels between Mullan and Plummer. You can ride your bike, walk, run, and even snowshoe on this long and beautiful trail.
