Summer is the perfect time to head outdoors, enjoy a little fresh air, and admire some of Mother Nature’s most incredible creations. While there are several ways to do this, one of my favorites is on a camping trip. While Idaho is home to dozens of camping spots, there is one that is beautiful and worthwhile —  Upper Payette Lake Campground. Nested at the edge of the mountains and located on the shores of Upper Payette Lake, this camping spot in Idaho is sure to make your summer splendid.

We could list many of the best campgrounds in Idaho but near the top of that list would be Upper Payette Lake Campground. This beautiful camping spot in Idaho is approximately 16 miles from McCall and just a short drive from many recreational opportunities. It’s beautiful, quiet, and perfect if you want to escape into nature for a while.

This isn’t a large campground and only 20 campsites are available. It is perfect for those who love to spend time in a tent as there are no hookups for trailers and RVs.

Twelve of the campsites are available on a first-come first-serve basis. You can make a reservation for eight of the campsites. There are also no trash dumpsters so be prepared to pack out all trash.
While the campsites may not offer tons of amenities, you’ll still enjoy a picnic table and fire ring at each site. Plus, there are plenty of trees to help you stay cool during those hot summer days.

And while the campground is definitely lovely, you may not want to spend all of your time there. Spend some time on the lake.

You can find a boat ramp located next to the campground and motorized use on the lake is limited to a “no wake” restriction.
You may also want to bring your hiking boots and check out several nearby trails including the Upper Payette Lake Connector Trail #337. The trailhead is found in the campground.
