Idaho has more than its fair share of enchanting locations and unexpectedly gorgeous hidden gems, but every so often, we stumble onto a natural haven that simply takes our breath away. While the rugged Sawtooth Mountains are a treasured slice of Idaho all on their own, when it comes to the spectacular alpine lakes tucked within their depths, Idahoans are well aware of their pristine beauty as well. But one particular lake has something a little extra special going for it.
Welcome to heaven on earth: Lily Lake, tucked just off of Redfish Lake in the Sawtooth Wilderness.
Unlike the vast majority of the Sawtooth lakes which feature rocky bottoms and frigid temperatures, Lily Lake is a warm, marshy haven that thrives as its own hidden oasis. You can just imagine a family of frogs hopping from lily to lily.

But the water here is just as crystal-clear as its alpine counterparts in the higher elevations.
The hike starts on the Grand Mogul Trail that leaves from the southern end of the Inlet Campground. Look for a small sign that points to the "Lily Pond" and "Waterfall" trail. Take a right and climb a short distance to this delightful sculpted granite bowl filled with lily pads. The trail also continues uphill to an overlook directly across from a ledge waterfall in Redfish Creek.
The trail is only a mile or so, and can be popular at times for this reason.
