You likely recognize him from his role as Jesse Pinkman in the series "Breaking Bad," but you may not know that Aaron Paul was born in the small town of Emmett, Idaho. With three Emmy Awards for his incredible acting, Aaron Paul is a source of pride for this community.
Emmett is a small town of about 6,500 residents located in Gem County, Idaho. The area was originally used by Native Americans as their winter resorts, but permanent settlement began in the early 1860s when gold was discovered in the area. After the mines were closed, Emmett became known as the “Gem of Plenty” due to the fertile valley.
Along Main Street, you will find Historic Downtown Emmett. Brick buildings line the street and back in the early 1900s, they housed hotels, a pool hall and cigar store, a bakery, a feed and seed store, and more. Today, when you wander along, you will find great shops and restaurants to explore and enjoy.
Be sure to check out the Emmett Farmers’ Market when you visit. It’s located at Blaser Park, right next to the train depot. They offer a huge selection of fruits and vegetables, flowers, soaps, baked goods, and beautiful crafts.
The Gem County Museum is a fascinating five-building complex dedicated to collecting and preserving artifacts, photographs, and more from Gem County history. You can learn about the original Native American inhabitants as well as the history of the trappers, miners, and settlers of the area.
For nature lovers, spend some time at Black Canyon Park. With lovely scenery, it is perfect for picnicking, fishing, and boating. After a day exploring downtown Emmett, relaxing at the park is a great way to cap off the visit.
