The McConnell Mansion was built in 1886 by William J. McConnell. He was a merchant, well-known politician, and the Idaho Governor from 1887 to 1893. The house was passed down in his family until the 1960s when it was donated to Latah County.

Not only was this once a governor's home, but it has a unique architectural design. This mansion boasts a mixture of Queen Anne and Eastlake architectural styles. These were popular styles in the 1880s but today, no historic mansion from that time period and with those types of styles is still standing in Idaho.

On the first floor of the museum, you can visit various rooms and learn about different time periods from 1900 to 1930. The second floor of the museum is where you will find a restored master bedroom and exhibits, including activities for children.

This mansion is open for tours Tuesday through Friday and occasional Saturdays. Appointments are recommended. You can learn more and schedule your visit on the Latah County Historical Society website.
