The Waikiki Holiday Parade Is The Single Best Way To Ring In The Season In Hawaii
Whether you’ve lived in Hawaii your entire life or are a recent transplant, the Hawaiian Islands are probably the last place to cross your mind when you think of a traditional holiday season. But, if we’re being honest, we absolutely love spending Christmas in Hawaii. While you’ll still find all of your holiday favorites, from hot chocolate and sugar cookies to twinkling lights, holiday festivals, and parades, you can also enjoy a variety of unique seasonal traditions, including this annual parade.
The Waikiki Holiday Parade, held on November 29, 2019, is so, so much more than the perfect event to kick off the holiday season here on Oahu.
One week ahead of the anniversary, December 7, the parade honors those that made the ultimate sacrifice, survivors of Pearl Harbor, and our American military heroes.
The non-competitive parade hosts local bands, marching bands from the mainland, Pearl Harbor Survivors, local officials, dignitaries, military units, service bands, and entertainers.
Since 1998, the Waikiki Holiday Parade has aimed to educate students on this important piece of United States history and preserving Polynesian culture.
In addition to months of preparations, the week of events and performances on the island give students a unique learning experience they’ll never forget.
The groups also take part in commemorative performances in Pearl Harbor at the USS Missouri Battleship and a wreath-laying ceremony at the USS Arizona Memorial.
Because this is also a holiday parade, you’ll see plenty of glittering lights and Santa himself.
