The Colorful & Quirky Java Kai In Hawaii Is Heaven For Coffee Lovers
If there’s one beverage Hawaii is known for, it’s coffee. After all, Hawaii is the only American state with land able to grow coffee. And while we love Hawaii Island’s famous Kona Coffee as much as the next person, we’re pretty enamored with the coffee shops you’ll find scattered across Hawaii’s other main islands — and this one is one of our current favorites.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate
Welcome to Java Kai, a charming coffee shop tucked away in Kapa’a on the island of Kauai in a vibrant, funky building sure to catch your eye. Its bright turquoise exterior is hard to miss and once you step inside, you’re sure to be delighted.
The bright white walls are covered in local artwork, and the warm wood tones of the tables combined with the white metal chairs create a funky vibe that will make you want to sit and sip all day. There’s even outdoor seating.
Whether you order a simple black coffee made with beans from Kauai, Kona, or Molokai, or an iced macadamia nut latte, you’re sure to find something to satisfy your coffee craving.
Java Kai is known for so much more than it’s coffee, though. Breakfast and lunch menus are full of island classics like acai bowls, tropical waffles, BBQ taro burgers, and kalua pork sandwiches…
...but you’ll also discover a variety of tasty egg and bagel focused dishes for breakfast like these, as well as sandwiches and salads for lunch. How delicious do these breakfast sandwiches look?
Mornings at Java Kai get remarkably busy for such a sleepy little town, so you might have to wait to order and receive your caffeine fix and breakfast. Don’t worry if you’re in a hurry, though: you can order online and skip the line.
Java Kai is open daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, visit their website or follow them on Facebook. Have you ever enjoyed this quirky coffee shop? Where is your favorite place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the Aloha State? One of my personal favorites is Green World Coffee Farm, an Oahu gem.

After college, she chose to trade in her winter boots for slippahs and moved to the beautiful island of Oahu, where she has been living for more than five years. She lives on the west side but is constantly taking mini-road trips across the island and visits the neighboring islands whenever she can getaway. She loves hiking, snorkeling, locally-grown coffee, and finding the best acai bowl on Oahu.
