When Mayor of Honolulu Kirk Caldwell was in office from 2013 to 2021, he committed to planting 100,000 new trees in Honolulu by 2025. You just might see an even bigger sea of yellow flowers in Hawaii in years to come.

What are some of the best wildflower trails in Hawaii?

  • Limahuli Garden and Preserve (Kaua’i): This lovely land offers a three-quarter-mile loop trail with an elevation of 200 feet, requiring many steps to reach the destination. The impressive native plant collections are species from northwestern Kaua’i, which include rare and endangered species close to extinction in the wild.
  • Wahiawa Botanical Garden (Wahiawa): You can imagine the scenery located at a place tucked between the Wai‘anae and Ko‘olau mountain ranges in central O‘ahu. The 27 acres have an interesting history, dating back to the 1930s when it was used by sugar planters as an experimental arboretum.
