The Easy Kiholo-Huehue Trail Leads To A Stunning Blue Lagoon In Hawaii

Some of the most scenic beauty in the country can be found on one of the Hawaiian Islands. Numerous trails around the state may lead to stunning overlooks, hidden black sand beaches, enchanting waterfalls, or sparkling lagoons. In Kailua-Kona, there’s an easy hike that guides visitors to a black sand beach with a magnificent blue lagoon at Kiholo Bay. This small body of water is so breathtaking and inviting you will want to jump in for a swim right away.

The Kiholo-Huehue Trail is a 2.6-mile trail that can be found near Kailua Kona. This lightly trafficked loop is good for all hiking skill levels and only has a 206-foot elevation gain.

The trail's terrain is relatively flat with stones and vegetation and you will pass by several houses along the way. Wildlife is abundant in this area, so don't be surprised if you stumble upon all types of incredible creatures.

Along the pathway, you will encounter a small pool of cold water that's worthy of a stop. This is a collapsed, open-air lava tube known as the Kaenalele, although it is also referred to as "Queen's Bath."

The area of Kiholo Bay, which is part of Kiholo State Park Reserve, was formed by lava flows from Mount Hualalai in the early 1800s.

When you get to the black sand and pebble beach, your jaw will drop at the sight of the turquoise lagoon! This gorgeous body of water is Wainanali'i Pond.

You may see a few green sea turtles who love the calm waters of this lagoon. This is where many of them feed and bask along the rocks.

With a mix of fresh and seawater, this lagoon takes on a turquoise color, although many refer to it as a "blue lagoon."
