Bridges have been around for thousands of years, but every time I cross one, I’m struck by how cool they really are. They allow us to briefly defy gravity and cross over land or water that would not otherwise be able to be traversed. It’s a pretty cool feat of engineering! There are lots of great bridges in Georgia, with some pretty cool historic bridges, covered bridges, truss bridges, swinging bridges, and more located all over the state. One that’s particularly neat thanks to both its design and longevity is the Elder Mill Covered Bridge in Watkinsville, not too far from Athens. This is a beautiful bridge to visit at any time of year, and it feels like a step back in time. Check it out:
