Here’s the thing about Georgia, sometimes the Southern parts get overlooked. Which is a tragedy really, because there is SO much that Southern Georgia can offer to residents as well as visitors. Compared to the urban sprawl of Athens and Atlanta, or the beauty of the coast from Savannah or Tybee Island, people might not expect much from Southern Georgia. But, boy would they be wrong. 1. You can only find Okefenokee Swamp in Southern Georgia.
This beautiful landscape and outdoor adventurer's dream is almost 500,000 acres of swampland featuring an abundance of sightseeing opportunities plus flourishing wildlife everywhere.
2. No matter where you go, there is Southern charm everywhere.
Southern Georgia has a lot of history worth exploring, plus little pieces of it within every town. Find those little gems in each town and appreciate them for the stories they hold.
3. You still get beautiful slices of the coast.
Just because we're a bit south doesn't mean the coast isn't as stunning. Take St. Simons Island as the perfect place to snap a few photos, enjoy a waterside meal, and take a dip with the whole entire family.
4. Where else can you see water this clear?
Radium Springs in Albany, Georgia has some seriously crystal clear water. This magical attraction draws crowds each and every year to learn about the history of the springs and the healing powers it is said to posses. The thing is, you can only visit this hotspot in Southern Georgia.
5. Southern Georgia has one of the oldest towns in the country.
St. Mary's, Georgia is one of the oldest towns in the United States. Not only is this town full of historical fun and legendary stories, but it also is quite fun to explore, too. Enjoy a bit of the waterside wonder of St. Mary's plus all the delicious Southern seafood you can eat.

Brunswick, Georgia in the Southern part of the state is said to have originated the famed stew that we all know and love. What better way to pay homage to our favorite Southern dish than by visiting the town that started it all?
8. The architecture is unparalleled.
You'll find quite a bit of beauty in the architecture of Southern Georgia. Take the Colquitt County Court House in Moultrie as the prime example. The most picturesque spot in the city worth snapping a few photos.
9. The food you'll find in Southern Georgia is unique unto itself.
There are so many wonderful opportunities to get your feast on in Southern Georgia. Like Steffens Restaurant for example, in Kingsland. You can bring the kids and sidle up to the counter for a few cold milkshakes to ward off the summer heat.
10. There are always sights and sounds that you won't find anywhere else.
Southern Georgia has a ton of attractions worth checking out, especially those that you cannot find elsewhere. Take The Big Oak in Thomasville, for instance. This history behind this burgeoning beaut should only be appreciated in person.
