The Springer Opera House in Columbus, Georgia is one of the oldest and most beautiful theaters in the state.

Francis Joseph Springer first opened the opera house in 1871, which was a huge hit for the community.

Many famous faces graced the stage over the years from Oscar Wilde to Ethel Barrymore, the grandmother to the Barrymores—even Franklin Delano Roosevelt gave a speech many moons ago.

While the opera house went through a complete renovation in the early 1900s, it also went through many transformations over the years including becoming a movie house and cultural center.

In the 1970s, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places and eventually names a National Historic Landmark in 1978.

Today, the theater puts on shows throughout the year ranging from young adult productions to the perfect date-night experience.

The Springer Opera House hosts performances on two stages, one stage that holds 700-seats as the main theater and a more intimate stage series.

NOTE: As of right now, the Springer Opera House has made the decision to cancel all remaining performances through May 2020. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t mark your calendar for a night out on the town when it reopens and support this wonderful place.
