The Claxton Bakery has been selling its signature treat since the 1940s, selling millions of pounds of fruitcake each year. It also works with over a thousand organizations nationwide to raise money for charity.
Their signature light and dark fruitcakes are packed with cherries, pineapple, and fresh Georgia pecans - and can be shipped nationwide or purchased from the bakery's old-fashioned general store. The store also sells Georgia pecans and memorabilia.
The bakery's most famous product might be the Clax Snax, a single-serving individually wrapped portion of their signature fruitcake that has gotten countless first-time visitors hooked on the unique treat. All of the bakery's treats are made in Claxton and are sold both at the bakery and the nearby Georgia Fruit Cake Co.
Once you've had your fill of fruitcake, take a relaxing drive down Claxton's main street. Many buildings have been there for a century or more. The facade of the town's original courthouse can be seen atop one of main street's buildings.
Claxton was even once the site of a major Coca-Cola bottling plant. While the plant is no longer open, it remains a popular spot for photo ops with the iconic beverage.
On the outskirts of Claxton, more adventurous visitors will find natural beauty at the Evans County Public Fishing Area, a government-run area that also features low-cost campgrounds.
