15 Things To Eat, Drink, And Say In Order To Be A True Georgian
Georgians definitely have their own particular way of life. Whether it’s specific catch phrases that you’ll only find in The Peach State or delicious food and drink that has found it’s home, there is uniqueness in every aspect of being a true Georgian. Perhaps these things have become commonplace for many, but here are 15 things to eat, drink, and say if you’re from Georgia.
1. Boiled Peanuts
Boiled peanuts have become a staple in Georgia for two reasons: incredible peanut growth for our state & because they're darn tasty.
You + All = Y'all. It just rolls off the tongue like butter. Ya'll ready to continue this list?
3. Coca Cola
For those who don't know, Coca Cola is pretty much a Georgia must. What was started in our home state has now spread throughout the country as a known classic American beverage. But we hold this drink close to our hearts because it reminds us of state pride through and through.
Whether it be barbecue ribs, pulled pork, fall-off-the-bone type meat, Georgians love their 'que. Some of the best barbecue in the country can be found here.
5. Pecan Pie
Similar to peanuts, pecans are a major agricultural component to Georgia. Which is why we gussy them up in a pie for an extra delightful treat.
6. "I Reckon"
Well I reckon this to be a fine list right now. And I reckon ya'll are enjoying yourselves reading it. If you're feeling so inclined, leave a comment over yonder.
7. Shrimp & Grits
This old-time Southern favorite is on plenty of menus throughout Georgia, some boasting to be the best-of-the-best. The only way to find out is to try them all!
8. Sweet Tea
Sweet tea in Georgia is a Southern gem of a beverage. Commonly made by adding sugar to black tea and then icing that puppy down, sometimes you can just drop the "sweet" and order up a tea and they'll know exactly what you mean.
Whether it be "all the fixins" or "I'm fixin' to go see Bob" this versatile slang word is commonplace in Georgia. We prefer all the fixins' because that just means more food. Amiright?
10. Fried Chicken
Fried chicken in Georgia, there is nothing like it. Every state has their own fried chicken recipe or the way they prefer to make it. But there is something about Georgia fried chicken that just outdoes all the rest, hands down.
11. Meat & Three
Ordering up a meat and three or meat and two is still possible in Georgia. While this common phrase has seemed to disappear within the last handful of decades, Georgia still proudly offers meat and threes at various food counters across the state.
12. "Bless Her Heart"
True Southern ladies know this phrase well. Someone acting ugly? "Well bless her heart, that girl needs a hug".
13. SweetWater Beer
The famed beer company SweetWater has become something of a local favorite in Georgia, especially since it's locally crafted. With a wide distribution, many Georgians prefer this craft brew over any others.
If you find a place in Georgia that makes biscuits just right, hold on to them forever. A bit hard on the outside, soft and warm on the inside, where the butter just falls into the crevices...mmm mmm, we're getting hungry just thinking about it.
15. "It don’t make no nevermind"
For Georgians looking to get their point across about something not mattering, "it don't make no nevermind" is often used. Like the fact UGA came in second place this year...it don't make no nevermind because we'll get 'em next year.
