Southeast Georgia is a beautiful place, with unique landscapes and tons of attractions. It’s home to several magnificent state parks, one of which is tucked away in the tiny city of Nicholls. This little Coffee County city near Douglas has a population of about 3,000 residents. It’s probably best known for being the site of the Coffee County Correctional Facility prison, which actually houses more prisoners than the town has residents! One other famous site here is General Coffee State Park. This 1,500-acre state park was named for Congressman and military leader General John E. Coffee, who is also the namesake for Georgia’s Coffee County. There’s a lot to see and do in this great state park – it’s great for bird-watching, hiking, and camping, plus it’s got several historical sites and hosts festivals and events throughout the year.
