Ever wonder what others think of Georgia? Well, they think of all the good things that we have to offer! We have the best accents, the freshest peaches, and of course–the nicest folks you ever want to meet! Here are 15 things everyone thinks of when they think of Georgia:
Georgia and peaches are synonymous with one another. Georgia has had a long-standing tradition with peaches since the 19th century, when the first commercial production occurred. In 2013, Georgia produced over 35 thousand tons of peaches.
2) Hot Weather
This summer has been especially hot, with a few days being over 100 degrees! It's no surprise that Georgia is known for its scorching weather!
3) Southern Accents
These folks in Augusta, GA definitely have a southern accent. Georgia is known for its distinct dialect. Did you know that a southern accent is the largest dialect in the country? Not only that, it's rated as the most attractive accent as well!
A red dirt road in Comer, GA is common in Georgia. When people think of Georgia, they think of country roads and farmland. And while that's not all we have to offer, we definitely have them!
5) Farm Animals
What comes along with farmland? Farm animals! Georgia is known to have cows and horses. It's common to ride down the street and see fields of cows, horses, and pigs. Growing up in Henry County, I even lived near a field of llamas!
6) Atlanta Braves
Baseball is a favorite sport in Georgia, so it's no surprise that the Atlanta Braves are a common theme with Georgia.
7) Country Music
Here's a shot of Merlee Haggard concert in Georgia. When you think of the south, of course you are going to think of country music--and Georgia is no different! There are literally dozens of country music venues in Georgia, and it's never too difficult to find a good country show.
8) Reality TV
With reality TV being all the rage now--and Georgia being a second "Hollywood"--you can expect that a number of those reality TV shows are coming straight out of Georgia. Some popular reality TV shows are "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," "Say Yes To The Dress: Atlanta," and "Property Virgins."
9) Exciting Night Life
Here's a bar in Athens, one of the notorious scenes for crazy bar life in Georgia. Another popular nightlife scene is Atlanta, where many college students frequent clubs and bars in the many Atlanta cities. Let's not forget Savannah and Statesboro--it can get crazy there too!
10) UGA "Georgia"
Of course we can't talk about Georgia without talking about UGA! It's a school that we are proud of--from their football team to their top notch academics, we're proud that the bulldogs call Georgia home.
11) GA Tech
Another marker of academic excellence is GA Tech, or the Georgia Institute of Technology. It's famous for their amazing football team, and also for their academic rigor. They graduate some of the best engineers in the country!
12) Southern Food
Great southern food and Georgia can be spoken in the same breath. Just about on every street corner, you can find a mom n' pop spot that will serve you up a plate of good southern comfort!
The capital of our great state--Atlanta is a place where many people migrate to, and where many a tourist go. There's so many job opportunities and schools in this great city. It's also very multicultural, and brings a global perspective to the state of Georgia.
Savannah is an upscale vacation spot and an old-fashioned Georgia tradition all wrapped up in one. It's beauty cannot be matched, and it hosts some of the oldest and historical buildings in the country. Savannah definitely makes Georgia a better place.
15) Friendly People
As I always say, the best part of Georgia is the people! You just can't beat the friendly Georgia folks here.
