When you appreciate a really good steak, you don't mind driving a bit out of your way to get it. If you count yourself among those who would go to the ends of the Earth for a great meal, there's a steakhouse in Wyoming that can accommodate you.
The Canyon Springs Stage Stop Steakhouse isn't quite at the edge of nowhere - but it's about in the middle. Almost 20 miles from the nearest city and surrounded by pristine Wyoming wilderness, it also happens to be one of the best steakhouses on the planet. Once you've tasted the crave-worthy cuisine at this remote restaurant, you'll understand why people from all over gladly go out of their way to eat at the Stage Stop.
It's unlikely that you'll simply come across the Canyon Springs Stage Stop Steakhouse. It's located on a rural road off the highway and out in the middle of nowhere over on the east side of the state close to the Wyoming/South Dakota border.
The Stage Stop's official address is 381 Mallo Road, Four Corners, Wyoming, though it's actually almost 4 miles east of the tiny unincorporated community. Plus, since Four Corners isn't officially a town, you'll have to travel over 17 miles southwest to reach the nearest actual city - Newcastle.
With views like this in every direction, you gotta admit that this steakhouse is in an idyllic location.
Steakhouses that serve food this good tend to be upscale and formal. The Stage Stop's menu definitely delivers the delicious, but the atmosphere is casual and inviting.
Since you will have to drive a bit from any starting point, you'll want to spend some time at the Canyon Springs Stage Stop instead of breezing through with an eat-and-run attitude. It's a good thing that the Stage Stop is a comfortable place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or a beer before you even look at the menu.
Once you do start perusing the list of mouth-watering meals, you might have a hard time choosing. The Stage Stop is rumored to have the hands-down best steaks in the state, starting with the prime rib.
The ribeye steaks are tender and flavorful, and they practically overflow the plate.
Plus, you'll find seafood selections on the menu such as succulent shrimp and fresh halibut.
The side dishes are chef's choice, to ensure that everything is ultra-fresh. You might enjoy a delightful al dente gnocchi with broccoli slaw one time and be treated to roasted root veggies and garlic mashed potatoes the next. Not knowing what the chef has in store is half the fun, and you'll never be disappointed.
When it's time for dessert, ask your server what's on the menu. The after-dinner fare tends to be seasonal, but you can usually get a huge slice of the Stage Stop's famous ooey gooey chocolate cake.
Open Thursday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Canyon Springs Stage Stop Steakhouse is the perfect destination for an exceptional meal when you feel like taking a drive.
