Wisconsin is home to some pretty amazing restaurants. But one of the coolest restaurants we have is up in Door County. We're talking about Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant. The fact that they serve Swedish food isn't too weird, due to the Swedish heritage in this area. What's actually quirky is the roof...or what's on top of it. No, your eyes do not deceive you. Goats roam on top of this grass roof. It's easy to see why everyone loves Al Johnson’s in Wisconsin.
Al Johnson's is a mainstay here in Sister Bay.
In fact, it's been an icon for 58 years.
Right from its exterior, you can tell this is a Scandinavian place.
If you look up, you will see an unexpected surprise: goats.
The roof is made out of grass, and there are bridges for the goats to walk on.
They truly delight everyone who passes by.
The food - Swedish fare - is very good.
Their breakfasts are especially amazing. Indulge in rich Swedish pancakes and drizzle their house-made syrup all over it. Al Johnson's also makes incredible strawberry and raspberry jam.
Waitstaff dress in traditional Swedish garb, and there is a gift shop with Swedish gifts.
This place is truly one of the most unique restaurants in Wisconsin. Come see why people can't stop talking about this fun eatery!
Come for the goats, stay for the food...every Wisconsinite needs to make a trip up here!
