No offense to the chain bookstores, but our small town book shops are perfect for browsing. And if you happen to be browsing at Shakespeare & Company in Chehalis, you can enjoy a perfect cup of coffee while you pick out your next great read.
Shakespeare & Company is located in an old 2-story house (which was once a bordello!) across the street from the Lewis County Courthouse in Chehalis.
The address is 120 NW Pacific Avenue.
The bookstore has a warm, welcoming ambiance that draws people in.
It's owned by Karen McSwain and Maureen (Mo) Anderson, who have turned their love of reading into their livelihood.
The books here are gently used, in great condition, and totally eclectic.
You never know what you'll find on these shelves.
But believe it or not, the books aren't even the best part of this charming place.
The onsite cafe serves coffee made with beans from Olympia Coffee Roasting Co., and it's outstanding.
You can also enjoy homemade pastries, sandwiches, and other goodies made by Karen herself.
Food is also important to these business owners, and they do an amazing job of crafting the perfect menu.
Shakespeare & Company is open daily.
Hours vary, but they do close at 5 p.m. during the week all winter long.
Come cozy up at Shakespeare & Company and enjoy a good read over a hot cup of soup this winter.
There's no better way to stay cozy.
Washington has some fantastic independently owned book shops. The next time you're in Bellingham, check out Village Books.
