If you happen to be in Bellingham and you ask the locals where to get the best breakfast in town, The Birch Door Café is sure to come up. Even on weekday mornings, this place stays perpetually packed, and it rarely seems to slow down.
Breakfast isn't the only thing you can get here, but it is served all day... and it's absolutely addictive. If you haven't discovered it already, this place is about to blow your mind. We're sure you'll agree that it is one of the best cafes in Washington!
The Birch Door Café is owned by Casey and Taria Nagler, a husband and wife team who take as much pride in the atmosphere as they do the food.
You can find this delicious place in the town of Bellingham. While this is their first restaurant as a couple, Casey's family has been in the industry for multiple generations.
Casey's grandparents once owned a restaurant in Chicago, his parents opened the Oak Table in Sequim in the 1980s, and now all three of their children own restaurants in Washington.
The Oak Table has a sister restaurant in Silverdale, and Casey's brother Kory and his wife Rachel own the delicious Maple Counter in Walla Walla.
Here, everything is still done the old-fashioned way.
The juice is always fresh, the potatoes are done homestyle, and the pancakes are all made from scratch. It's homestyle cooking at its best!
While every breakfast item is outstanding, this place is a pancake house at heart.
Their buttermilk batter is made from scratch, and it's not easy... but it's worth it. (Make sure you work out before you come here!)
There's a long list of pancakes available on the menu but they're most famous for their apple pancake.
As you can see, this pancake is massive. If you order it, you won't want anything else... possibly for the rest of the day.
The apple pancake is made like a souffle, baked in the oven until it's three inches high and filled with fresh apples and covered with a cinnamon sugar glaze.
The menu states that this is a pancake you'll talk about forever. And it is. Be sure to take a photo to show your friends!
Of course, you really can't go wrong with anything you order here.
Between the fresh ingredients, charming atmosphere, and wonderful service, it's clear that this is a team that takes pride in what they do.
The restaurant is open daily from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.
And it's well worth the wait to enjoy it. Bring the family along for a delicious good time!
Don't those apple pancakes look delightful? You can learn more about them and see a full menu on the official Birch Door Café website, as well as on the entity Facebook page.
