It seems like everyone is staking claims to the best tacos in the land. Here in Texas, however, we can rightfully claim the birthright to the famous Tex-Mex style and unique blends of spices and ingredients that simply cannot be beat. There are too many amazing taquerias around Dallas - Fort Worth to crown a "best of" winner, but that doesn't stop us from some tasty recommendations that will keep you coming back. Here is a taco trail of some favorite stands and joints across the Metroplex.

This version begins in Northeast Tarrant County, meanders through Irving, hits a few Dallas highlights, and finishes in Fort Worth. Here's this map for a general trail overview from the picks below, or choose a few spots and or trail blaze your own path!

1. Chuco’s Taco Bodega (797 Keller Pkwy., Keller)

This epic taco shop is hiding inside a Shell gas station! It's worth the extra effort to hunt it down, especially for their brisket, carnitas, and breakfast tacos.

2. Frezko Taco Spot (3105 E. Southlake Blvd., Southlake)

Carnita tacos are a crowd favorite here. Foodies rave about both their red and green salsas, as well as the small cup of complimentary bean soup is served prior to your meal.

3. Taqueria El Campeon (2709 Mustang Dr., Grapevine)

Customers love the top-your-own bar station for salsa, pico, and other toppings and rave about Taqueria El Campeon's breakfast tacos as well. Shown above are trompo and carnitas styles on flour tortillas.

4. 3 Niñas (313 W Bedford Euless Rd., Hurst)

Breakfast tacos are served here all day! The corn tortillas are made fresh daily and this huarache is a great alternative to regular tacos!

Fresh avocados, a variety of toppings, and made-from-scratch salsas are just a few reasons why loyal customers keep coming back to Tacos Los Tovares.

6. Danny’s Tacos & Grill (5815 W Arkansas Ln., Arlington_

How about a sampler platter of chicken, beef, pork and chorizo tacos? This place delivers too!

7. Lucas Tacos (1150 W. Pioneer Dr., Irving)

The tasty trio pictured above includes both tacos al pastor and carne asadas. Tortillas are made on site and get a thumbs up for not being greasy.

Fresh ingredients and tasty homemade sauces draw rave reviews, and this place offers some truly unusual (and delicious) combinations, like shrimp and truffle steak!

11. Tacos Mariachi (602 Singleton Blvd., Dallas)

These scrumptious selections feature CriscoKidd fish, Barbacoa shredded beef, and campechano octopus and shrimp taco varieties served with a side of elote callejero, a tasty Mexican street corn.
