They aren't strange - other states just aren't cool enough to understand. These are 8 famous dishes in Texas that either can't be found anywhere else, or can't be found in quite the same way anywhere else (which makes sense because it's impossible to replicate us).
1. Chili without beans
It might sound weird, but please remember that chili originated right here in Texas. OUR way is the normal way - everyone else is just weird.
2. Fruit or sweet cheese-filled kolaches
Nowadays, most people think of cylindrical-shaped bread filled with sausage or ham and gooey American cheese when they think kolaches. However, that isn't what a true kolache is. The Czech brought them to the city of West, where you can still find them made fresh daily at the Czech Stop.
3. Cowboy Caviar
This refreshing bean salad made with black-eyed peas, black beans, veggies, and a tangy vinaigrette may not align with the meat-and-potatoes approach to food that a lot of Texans have, but it sure does hit the spot on a hot summer day.
4. Blue Bell
We have an obsession with Blue Bell that borders on unhealthy. Other brands are totally off-limits. Call us crazy, but it's just that good.
5. Breakfast tacos
It's not our fault that other states don't want to enjoy one of the most delicious foods ever all day long. More for us! Really, it's one of the most famous dishes in Texas for good reason.
6. Pecan pie
Forget pumpkin pie. This delicious dessert is what every Texan is most excited for during the holidays. Is it fall yet?
7. Sweet tea
I've been to so many restaurants in other states and ordered iced tea only to be met with a glass of tasteless blasphemy. I'm so used to the default being sweet tea that I forget to specify! I shouldn't have to, though - everyone should know that the only acceptable way to drink tea is with buckets of sugar.
8. Queso
We rank our Mexican restaurants based on their chips and queso. If you can't understand that, you probably aren't from Texas.
