Although we Texans aren't too concerned with atmosphere at restaurants, it can be a nice bonus to compliment an already delicious menu. This perfect balance is exactly what you'll find at Launderette, an East Austin eatery that used to be a gas station and laundromat. From lox and bagels to birthday cake ice cream sandwiches, the deliciousness simply can't be described in words.

Housed in a former gas station and laundromat, Launderette is living proof that sometimes, the best things are hiding in the most unexpected places. Locals have been frequenting this East Austin dive for years, but it deserves an audience beyond the Capital City.
Inside, the retro-chic atmosphere serves as a portal back to the good ol' days. It's almost like an upscale 50s diner, with a vintage neon sign juxtaposed against elegant patterned barstools.
As far as the menu, it's like comfort food with a gourmet twist. Nothing beats a chewy bagel in the morning, and a poached egg, lox, capers, and other scrumptious additions offer just the right amount of five-star indulgence.
You can't go wrong with a big, juicy steak for dinner. This one features kale anchovy butter, heirloom tomato, and focaccia crisp -- AKA it's heaven in your mouth.
Even the vegetables at Launderette are crave-worthy. Try the asparagus, topped with piquillo romesco and garlic aioli. Yum!
Let's not forget about dessert! The birthday cake ice cream sandwich is their signature creation, and it's as decadently delicious as it sounds.
Just look at this mouthwatering spread! What would you tuck into first? We're definitely eyeing those ribs.
