Tennessee is known for a whole lot of things, from country music to the Mississippi blues to good ol' barbecue in the Great Smoky Mountains, but it's also the purveyor of some of the best dessert in the American south: banana puddings. If you haven't been to The Commissary in Germantown, Tennessee, then you're missing out on some of the best banana pudding in the state. There are two locations on the east side of the state, making it easy for folks to indulge. Check out all the important details below.
The original Commissary in Germantown, Tennessee, operated as a tiny country store for almost an entire century. In 1981, the space became one of the best bbq restaurants in the state.
Here, in a warm and inviting space bursting with rustic charm and southern hospitality, you'll find Memphis-style bbq to die for.
But really. This slow-cooked, meat-centric menu is bound to blow your socks off. Even celebrities like Tim McGraw, Kathy Bates, and Jimmy Buffett have dined to their heart's content inside.
Then of course, there's the dessert menu. After heaps of smoked meats and sandwiches, you'll find a number of desserts that run the southern gamut, from lemon icebox pie to coconut cake. And, of course, banana pudding.
Homemade banana pudding, that is. At only $3.25, it'll be hard to indulge in just one serving. It's perfectly sweet and smooth, a southern decadence at its best.
Bring your friends and family for a bowl of chili or perfectly fried catfish, and top off the whole experience with some banana pudding. Just order enough to have your own, of course. You won't want to share!
Will you be indulging sometimes soon? You can visit for yourself from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every night of the week except for Sunday, when the restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
You can learn more about Germantown Commissary with a visit to the restaurant's official website.
