Providence is known all over New England for its exceptional dining scene. However, there are still some restaurants that simply stand out, even in a crowd of delicious dining options. If you've ever had wood-fired pizza, you already know there's something special about the unique, perfectly charred flavor. And when you visit Figidini, you'll be delighted to discover that practically everything on the menu is cooked that way.
You'll find Figidini on Washington Street in downtown Providence, a hidden gem in a sea of tall buildings and bustling urban energy.
The exterior may be unassuming, but it's also charming and inviting.
Frankie and Kara Cecchinelli are the co-owners of this place, which has roots tied to both food and love.
It all started over 30 years ago, when Frankie's parents opened their first restaurant, Franca’s, in Waltham, MA. Franca's, which had a wood-burning oven, was so successful that they opened another location. Since Frankie grew up learning the skill of wood-fire cooking, it made sense that he pursued a culinary career and chose to open a similar eatery with his wife, Kara.
Frankie and Kara decided to create a restaurant where the food was in its purest and freshest form.
They decided Figidini would only have a wood-fired oven and a wood-fired grill to keep everything simple (and delicious).
Figidini serves authentic Neapolitian pizza, which can only be baked in a wood-fired oven.
And while the pizza here is absolutely delicious, it's far from the only thing on the menu.
You'll also see a selection of wood-fired meats on the menu, like sirloin, chicken thighs, and tasty lamb.
Keep an eye out for the frequent specials as well.
Even the small plates and vegetables here are wood-fired whenever possible.
The Brussels come topped with pickled onions, cured olives, and fermented chili powder.
If you enjoy cocktails, treat yourself to one (or two) of these creative concoctions.
We find that they are best enjoyed on the patio on a warm evening, although the outdoor seating here is limited.
Figidini is open Tuesday - Saturday for dinner service.
At this time, they close at 8 p.m. Tuesday - Thursday and 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. But since Rhode Island's eateries are opening back up and summer is coming, keep checking their social media accounts as they may expand those hours.
Have you ever dined at Figidini? If you prefer to enjoy your wood-fired meal at home, you can always order online.
