In fact, the best catfish in Oklahoma is often hiding in the state's many small-town eateries - quiet hidden gems where it's all about quality over quantity. Shad's Catfish Hole is one such hidden dining gem tucked away in Sallisaw that serves some of the best fried catfish and hushpuppies in the Midwest. The tin building has no windows and the ambiance is lacking in decorative touches, but the food is off-the-charts delicious. The locals have been keeping this place a secret for years, but I think it's time we spread the good news.
Shad's Catfish Hole is locally owned in Sallisaw and is the kind of place where you go for amazing food rather than a white tablecloth experience.
The place is rustic and clean, but there are no windows so it's pretty dark. But, that's okay because we are here for fried catfish and hushpuppies. and it's hard to find better.
The menu is displayed on wood boards on the wall...pretty creative, I'd say.
Shad's is famous for their fried catfish, but everything on the menu is worth writing home about too.
They offer all-you-can-eat catfish that comes with endless amounts of beans, coleslaw, and hushpuppies.
I don't know about you, but I love all the sides almost as much as I do the main meal.
As you'll see on the menu board, they also serve frog legs and crab legs, so you can get a little extra buttery goodness to go along with your fried fish.
Meat eaters, don't fret. They also serve a tasty sirloin with a choice of side. Other menu items include salmon, trout, chicken, and fried or boiled shrimp.
And seriously...the hushpuppies! Just look at these golden-brown bites of deliciousness!
Amazing food, awesome service, and a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere - what else could you ask for??
