Thanks to our waterfront location, there are tons of great seafood restaurants in New York. If you're looking for shrimp, clams, and fish, there's plenty of places worth checking out. One spot that we think reigns supreme when it comes to oysters in particular is Rella. This delicious new Rochester eatery is a wine and seafood bar in the heart of Wadsworth Square. It's very small, seating only about 15 people, but trust us: this is some of the best seafood in New York and it's definitely worth a visit.
Rella just opened up within the last few years, so you may not have heard of them unless you live in the area.
You likely are familiar with the owner if you live in Rochester. He also owns Rocco just up the road. The beloved Italian spot is famous for their homemade ricotta cheese and other goodies.
Like Rocco, Rella is quite small. The restaurant resembles a ship, with the main focus on the kitchen. You can watch the chefs prepare the meals, and the chefs can watch you enjoying them.
The menu changes regularly depending on availability. With fresh seafood, it's not always possible to guarantee exactly what will be in stock.
There's usually some form of sliders on the menu, though the fillings change sometimes.
What does always feature prominently on the menu is oysters, and if you're fond of these yummy bivalves, this is one spot you won't want to miss.
They're shipped in overnight and shucked just before serving, so they're as fresh as can be.
There are also plenty of affordable wines to check out. Wines pair great with seafood and Rella prides itself on its status as an oyster and wine bar.
This is such a delicious spot with a unique and joyful atmosphere. If you love seafood, especially oysters, you won't want to miss this place!
For more information about Rella, you can check out Rocco's Facebook (it also posts Rella updates).
