Walk down any Main Street in Montana and you're likely to find a great place to get a burger or steak. But the Pork Chop Sandwich is a delicacy you won't find just anywhere. For this delicious invention, credit goes to Pork Chop John's. Nearly a century after this little lunch spot was founded, it's more popular than ever.
It all started in 1924, when the original Pork Chop John, John Burklund, started selling pork chop sandwiches from the back of a wagon on the corner of Mercury and Main Street in Uptown Butte.
In 1932, John moved his business to its flagship location at 8 West Mercury Street, where it remains to this day. There's also a second location at 2400 Harrison Avenue.
When you enter the restaurant's flagship location, prepare to feel like you've gone back in time.
There's a counter with 10 stools, a walk-up window for fast ordering, and a friendly team ready to help you.
While you'll find all kinds of tasty burgers, sandwiches, and treats on the menu, this place is famous for its original Pork Chop Sandwich.
This crispy, tender, lean pork sirloin sandwich has enticed many a Montanan over the years.
You can order a single or a double Pork Chop Sandwich and choose Loaded (mustard, pickle, and onion) or Loaded Deluxe (mustard, pickle, and onion plus lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise) if you're feeling especially hungry.
You can even add cheese and egg to your sandwich to truly make it your own.
And don't forget a side of fries and an ice-cold drink to wash it down.
Pork Chop John's has received national attention and won numerous local awards.
The flagship location was featured on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" on the Food Network’s Cooking Channel. The Pork Chop Sandwich has also been voted The Best Sandwich in Montana by The Daily Meal on MSN.com.
