If you have a sweet tooth, you must visit The Blue Owl Bakery and Restaurant. Located in a small, historic river town about 35 minutes south of St. Louis, this restaurant has been a dessert destination for diners for over 30 years. The Blue Owl does dessert so well that they have an entire room of the restaurant dedicated to sweets, and they operate an entirely separate desserts destination at the shop right next door!
The Blue Owl in Kimmswick has been serving amazing baked goods since 1985. Owner Mary Hostetter opened with five employees and dreamed that one day people would wait in line for a table at the Blue Owl.
However, it's likely she never dreamed that her little restaurant and bakery would be cast into the spotlight by beloved daytime talk show host, Oprah! The Levee High Apple Pie was featured as one of Oprah's favorite things for her holiday gift guide in 2011.
While you will still find a fantastic meal at the Blue Owl, everyone knows it's really about the dessert here. That is why you can find an entire room dedicated to sweets at the Blue Owl.
While you wait on your entree to arrive, venture into the bakery room where you can browse the cases. It's pretty hard to pass up the apple pie but there are tons of great options.
Whether you love cake or pie, you can enjoy a slice at the Blue Owl. In fact, desserts at the Blue Owl have become so popular, they opened an entire sweets shop just next door to the restaurant.
When you just need a slice of pie, stop by the Blue Owl Sweets Shoppe. Customers can order custom cakes for parties or just come in to buy items from the bakery case. The Sweet Shoppe also serves ice cream, candy, sodas, and coffee.
The Blue Owl Restaurant is located at 6116 Second St.,
Kimmswick. Find the Sweet Shoppe to the left of the patio, at the corner of Second and Market Street.
