Fittingly, the World Catfish Festival is held in Belzoni, which is known as the “Catfish Capital of the World.”
The annual catfish celebration is always held on the first Saturday of April in downtown Belzoni. Check your calendar for the dates of this year's festival.
Growing in popularity since its inception in 1976, the festival brings about 10,000 people from all over the world to Belzoni.
Over the years, it’s been named one of the Top 100 Events in North America and Top 20 Events of the Southeast.
Deserving of its reputation, the festival has a little something for everyone, especially fans of catfish.
In addition to the world’s largest fish fry and catfish eating contest…
…attendees can watch the crowning of Miss Catfish and Little Miss Catfish.
There’s more to the World Catfish Festival than catfish, though.
During the festival, more than 150 arts and crafts vendors fill several streets in downtown Belzoni. There are also free kids' activities and a 5K run/walk.
Live musical entertainment is a big part of the event, too. Throughout the day, attendees will hear a variety of musicians performing blues, country, gospel, and more.
