One of our favorite things about Maine is the quintessential small businesses that can be found throughout the state. From restaurants to gift shops to hardware and coffee, there's something local to support no matter what you need. Some of the best spots to support are the small general stores that have often been around for decades. This small-town general store in Maine is a great example and we especially love their out-of-this-world food! Make your way to the Lincolnville Center General Store for great food, snacks, and the Maine vibe you want.
Welcome to the Lincolnville Center General Store in Lincolnville! The building dates back as far as anyone can remember and the general store today is a center of local life. It's undoubtedly one of the best general stores in Maine.
While the outside looks like what you might expect an off-the-beaten-path Maine general store to be, the inside is surprising. With low light and clean, contemporary shelves this place feels both casual and refined all at once.
But you don't visit a general store for the fancy low-lighting. You visit for what you can leave with and this place has it all. Shelves are stocked with everyday items, but we urge you to come hungry for pizza! Pictured here is one of their specials featuring local fiddleheads, leeks, mushrooms & garlic with white sauce, ricotta and mozzarella blend.
Of course, you can also grab something more traditional. Every pizza is made in-house with a cheese blend of mozzarella, provolone, fontina and parmesan.
Pizzas come in a variety of options and they even have gluten-free crust.
If you ever get tired of pizza, considering grabbing one of their fantastic sandwiches. This is the thin sliced medium rare Roast Beef sandwich with caramelized onions, crisp romaine and house-made horseradish sauce on fresh baked rustic batard.
And, don't forget their array of baked treats. From tarts to cupcakes to pies and cookies, they have everything you might need to satisfy a sweet tooth.
And everything is beautifully created.
Leave with a few other necessities, like their fresh bread, and you'll be set for whatever life throws at you.
The Lincolnville Center General Store is open at varying hours throughout the week. It's open daily but don't serve pizza on Sundays, so be sure to get your fill before then. You can learn more about it by visiting the Lincolnville Center General Store website or you can follow the Lincolnville Center General Store on Facebook. It also posts daily specials on Facebook and Instagram. The general store can be reached at 207-763-4411.
We love this spot in Lincolnville, but there are many special places around the state. For instance, you can eat freshly caught lobster overlooking the bay at this Maine general store and restaurant!
Maine general stores are always fun to visit, so visiting this one is a good reason to head to this midcoast town. But, I love the idea of turning this visit into a road trip. Be sure to take the long way, stopping at every lobster shack and scenic view. And, of course, don't even think about hopping in the car without our guide to the best road trip snacks.
