When it comes to food, many people think Maine can only handle lobster. But as Mainers across the state will tell you, our culinary prowess extends far beyond the buttery crustacean you're envisioning. From our Maine-only "Italians" to our highly rated sushi, the culinary experience in Maine matches that of any big city.

In an effort to highlight this, we've told you about the best outdoor dining, the best Italian food, along with many other food-related topics. But, we have yet to tackle the best burgers. So, here without any further waiting are some of the best places to get a burger in Maine.

1. Fat Boy Drive-In, Brunswick

Fat Boy's does a lot of things right. From seafood to fried accompaniments (awesome onion rings, for instance) there is plenty on offer. But, try the Whoperburger first. It's classic and messy, just as it should be at a place with "fat" in the name. And, the good news is that they've just recently re-opened for the season. 2. Fresh Restaurant, Camden

So, you're in Camden and in need of a burger, but with a bunch of people who DON'T want a burger? Look no further than Fresh. In addition to a full menu of a variety of foods, their wide range of burgers is what makes you'll love. Try the Grass Fed Skillet burger if you're a meat-lover. If you're a vegetarian but don't want to miss out, be sure to order the Moroccan Spiced Lentil Burger. It comes with Yogurt Tzatziki, Olives, Tomatoes, Pea Shoots, Fried Kale Chip and Grilled Pita Bread. They may not specialize in them, but they certainly know burgers. 3. Fog Bar & Cafe, Rockland

Fog's menu features their signature burger front and center. Featuring grass-fed, humanely raised beef, topped with sriracha onion rings, bacon jam and melted asiago cheese, this guys comes on a toasted brioche bun with a side of duck dusted fries. 4. Grace Restaurant, Portland

Portland's Grace makes this list for two reasons. One is their $6 Grace Burger, which GRACES the bar menu every day. It's small, perfect and inexpensive enough to eat every single day. The other reason is for those that bore easily. For you, there's always The Rival. Every two-weeks, Grace comes up with a unique take on burgers with a creation that is meant to stand up against the Grace Burger. Check them both out and then decide which is better. 5. Harmon's Lunch, Falmouth

A veritable institution in Falmtouth, Harmon's is known for their loaded cheeseburger. It's a simple classic without any crazy toppings and comes with a steamed bun. I've been told to order more than one next time to truly satisfy a hefty hunger, but check it out and you be the judge. 6. Nosh Kitchen Bar, Portland

Telling you which burger to get at Nosh would be like telling you which lobster in the sea is the best to eat. There are so many options and each one is unique and impressive. If you want to branch out you may be impressed with the Mac N' Stack, which features two "buns" made of fried mac and cheese. If you love another Slab, another Portland love of ours, you'll want to order the burger that comes with two pizzas as buns. 7. Owl's Head General Store, Owls Head

You've heard the stories, you've nay-sayed the hype, but the reality is that the Seven Napkin Burger is actually pretty incredible. It was voted best burger in Maine by Food Network, which had us feeling a bit wary, actually. But, it won't disappoint. It's piled with cheese, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce and onions along with a hearty slather of mustard, mayonnaise and ketchup. In addition to being one of our favorite general stores in the state, we love the overall laid back vibe of this place. They've got plenty of other food on the menu, but don't miss out on this burger. Our pro-tip is to grab more than seven napkins though. Visit them at: 2 South Shore Drive,

8. The Rack BBQ, Carrabassett Valley

Come to the rack for a night of drinks and live music after spending the day at Sugarloaf. When you get hungry, get the Rack Burger, which seems to get better reviews than the BBQ itself. Visit them at: 5016 Access Road, Carrabassett Valley / 207-237-2211

9. Rollie's Bar & Grill, Belfast

If you want a casual place to watch the game, have some beers and enjoy a burger head to Rollie's. With daily changing burgers and the ever-popular Rollienator, you'll leave feeling satisfied. Visit them at: 37 Main Street, Belfast / 207-338-4502
